Aphentrica was established in Limassol, Cyprus in 1994 as specialist marine insurance brokers and consultants and has since grown to become a leading broker and insurance consulting firm in the region. The company handles the full gamut of Marine Hull and Liabilities insurances as well as other specialist non-marine and Aviation insurance products. Over its 20 years of operation, Aphentrica enjoys an excellent reputation among the international shipping and insurance community for its boutique style

approach to business and unique personalized service. Its portfolio consists of some of the world’s most reputable fleets from Cyprus, Greece, the rest of Europe and the Middle East. Aphentrica is fully regulated by the Cyprus Ministry of Finance and was one of the first overseas brokers in 2005 to be granted Open Market Correspondent (OMC) status from Lloyd’s of London. The company is an associate member of the Cyprus Shipping Chamber since 1995, and a member of CYMEPA.

    Marinos Vourgos
    Director

    Marinos Vourgos holds a BSc. in Business Economics from the Queen Mary University of London and an MBA in Marketing from the CASS Business School. He began his career in 1990 at Mario Marini Group of Companies. Marinos moved to insurance in 1994 as a co-founder of Aphentrica Marine Insurance brokers Ltd and as director has taken responsibility of the company's marketing strategy and implementation. Current responsibilities involve business production, placement and servicing of the company portfolio.

    After completion of her studies in Commercial Operations of Shipping in London in 1987, Anna started her career in marine insurance working as a broker at Lloyd’s of London for two major insurance broking firms. In-between insurance postings Anna worked in shipowning and shipmanagement companies and in 1994, she co-founded Aphentrica Marine Insurance Brokers Ltd, where she is currently responsible for the development, placement and servicing of the company portfolio.

    Anna is a member of the Board of Directors of the Cyprus Shipping Chamber where she also chairs the Marine Insurance Committee and represents the Chamber in the Marine Insurance Committee of the International Chamber of Shipping. She is a member of the Board of the Cyprus Marine Club and a member of the advisory board of the Department of Maritime Transport & Commerce of the Frederick University.

    Claims Executive

    Having graduated from Leicester University in the UK where she studied Law, Valia started her working career in 1994 as a Court advocate and thereafter as legal advisor on all areas of law until 2008 when she joined the Department of Merchant Shipping. As a team member of the Legal and EU Harmonisation Division she was responsible in the drafting of Bills and studying various public international issues emanating from the United Nations and the European Committee. She joined Aphentrica as a Claims Executive in December 2010.

    Thomas is a holder of BSc in Maritime Business with Maritime Law from the University of Plymouth and an MSc in International Trade Policy from the Robert Gordon University at Aberdeen. He started his career as a Law tutor in Greece until 2001 when he moved to shipping, initially as an S&P broker and afterwards as a claims and insurance officer working for ship-owning and ship-management companies. He joined Aphentrica in 2008 and he is exclusively involved with the placing and handling of P&I business.

    Maria started her career in the marine industry in 2004 whilst studying for a BSc in Maritime Studies that she graduated with Honors. She gained four years of experience in shipping working for a leading shipowning/shipmanagement company in Cyprus. She joined Aphentrica in 2008 where she is exclusively involved with Hull risks placings and account servicing.

    Prior to joining Aphentrica’s claims department in 2024, Aneta was working on the managerial and executive levels in the maritime and shipping industry. During this time she supported various international companies globally in respect of insurance policies, contracts, sanctions, claims and business opportunities. She holds a Master’s degree in Law and Diplomas in Insurance, Marine Insurance as well as Marketing.

    Alexandros is a holder of a law degree from the Queen Mary University of London and an LLM in Maritime Law from the City University London. In between academic years, Alexandros completed internships with Lloyd’s brokers, P&I Clubs and maritime law firms. He joined the Aphentrica team in 2021 and is currently involved in both Hull and P&I broking while also being involved in the company’s management operations.

    Andreas is a holder of a BSc in Maritime Business and Logistics from University of Plymouth and an MSc in Maritime Operations and Management from City University of London. With a varied background in shipping, which includes posts as performance analyst in shipmanagement, trading assistant in marine fuel supply and Port Operator in the ePort of Limassol, Andreas joined Aphentrica in 2024 to be exclusively involved with P&I broking

    Thomais is a holder of an LLB in Law from Leicester University and an LLM in Maritime Law from Southampton University. She joined Aphentrica in 2024 in the position of back-up broker to the company’s broking and claims teams.

    Andrie joined Aphentrica in 2008 having previously worked as an accountant in in the non-marine industry. At Aphentrica she oversees the accounts and financial aspects of the portfolio working closing with the broking team to ensure all insurance industry and premium requirements are met and complied with.

    Having completed her studies in Law followed by an LLM in Company Law, Gianna qualified as as an advocate, to then switch industries working for two of the largest international accounting firms and in parallel acquired her ACCA Diploma in Accounting and Business. With a combined legal and financial background, Gianna decided to pursue a career in marine insurance and joined Aphentrica in 2024 in the position of Accounting Assistant.

    Coming from a travel, tourism and telecommunications background, Toulla Christou is responsible for the office operational and hospitality logistics pertaining to her role as assistant to the management.
